About fifteen minutes later, Izana and the Honoka sisters were well on their way to check out the underdweller, riding one of the many elevators to the lower sections of the military base towards the residential area and the hospitals.

Still thinking of Yamano, Izana asked, "I wonder if Yamano's mad at us?"

En shook her head once in denial. "She didn't have to go that far."

"I know we're in a war," Hou added, perhaps a bit guiltily, "but it's been over a hundred uears since we faced the gauna." At her words, Izana couldn't help the flash of hope that this would continue and guilt that she would be so cowardly.

"If there's never going to be another battle, then what exactly are we training to become pilots for?" Ren asked pointedly.

"Um, well..." Hou started to reply but her answer was cut off as the elevator doors opened and the sounds of a protest filled the air.

"Throw down our weapons!" The leader, an elderly man in a dark robe, was yelling.

"Throw down our weapons!" Some fifteen protesters replied in unison.

Stepping from the elevator, Izana looked about with some confusion. "An anti-war rally?" This was the first she'd seen. She'd read of them of course, but that was history. Or maybe not.

"The military must call off our state of war! We are no longer at war!"

"They still put these on?" En asked. Noticing two other pilot cadets walking towards the protestors, she added, "Look, it's Kunato and Hoshijiro. Should we invite them as well?"

"You must listen to me. Sidonia is being controlled by the Immortal Council. They've been pretending for hundreds of years that we are at war so they can extend their lives!"

"Hoshijiro can come, but Kunato..." Izana replied doubtfully. Kunato put on airs worse than Yamano, even if he did have the highest scores of all the cadets.

"Don't turn away! You must not ignore the truth!"

"You're right, we should go on our own" Hou said quickly. She had had her own run ins with Kunato and his smug superiority. Closer to the protesters, who were rallying before the main entrance of the hospital, she added in disgust at their selfishness in blocking the doors, "Honestly".

"This is the problem with these activists." En replied with a scowl.

Just then, they all heard a muffled voice yelling, "NO! Not the organic converter reactor. You can't make me go there!" right before a person smashed through a window on the floor above the main entrance. They fell into the middle of the protest, landing on their shoulder badly, but picked themselves up. Startled and looking about, the man, for they could see that clear enough, took a moment to recover. Which was bad for him as a nurse poked her head out the smashed window and yelled out, "Somebody stop him!"

The man, or perhaps youth might be a better term, quickly recovered and bolted, right into Kunato's right hook, which sent him flying off his feet and into unconsciousness.

"Can you bring him into the hospital?" The nurse yelled down, to which Kunato merely sniffed before spinning on his heel and walking away.

Izana and the sisters by now had run up to the commotion. The sisters shook their heads, claiming tests to study for, which left Hoshijiro and Izana to help out. Which was easy enough, despite the unconscious boy's smell. Izana wasn't sure if it was his ancient vacuum suit or if it was the boy himself, likely it was both.
