garde723: (you're funny)
Ultimately, Izana did get Nagate out of his room, though it they had to enlist the aid of the dorm mother Hayami-san to do so. It's hard to go wrong with a humanoid bear.

One swift strike of her cybernetic arm and the door to Nagate's room was opened and his grief exposed to them. Being polite and practical, Hiyama-san swiftly bustled him out, tsk-ing all the while about how much cleaning she'd have to do, and deposited him into Izana's care.

Nagate made futile attempts to resist but ultimately gave up, following Izana where ever they might lead him.

Knowing he hadn't eaten in some time, and knowing the cafeteria wouldn't be staffed since Hiyama-san was the only staff, Izana took him into the residential area. As they walked, Izana kept up a calm stream of conversation, pausing once in a while to allow Nagate a chance to speak. He never made an attempt.

Finally, his stomach spoke for him and so they sat him down at a bench and went off in search of something he couldn't resist. They quickly found a tempera vendor who promised warm saki, and so they ordered two portions; ostensively for each of them, but really incase Nagate's appetite returned and he needed more.

Soon enough, the shop owner returned with the order. He had even thrown in an extra carafe of saki since "she was such a pretty girl."

"Oh, thank you. But I'm not a girl," Izana pointed out with a smile. "Would you like the yen for the extra carafe?"

Laughing at himself, the owner replied that he didn't, since Izana was pretty regardless. Izana thanked him again and turned to find Nagate. He wasn't at the bench they had left him at but after a quick look around, Izana spotted him and two large men who were yelled at him. One even threw something at him!

Panicked, Izana dropped the tray of food and ran over but by the time they got there, the men had left, leaving Izana the choice of running after them or checking on Nagate. Izana chose Nagate, of course, and knelt down to gently pull away the hand he held over his temple, revealing a fresh cut from whatever the man had thrown.

"Are you alright?" Izana asked, darting daggers at the men's retreating backs. Cowards.

"I'll be okay. Let's....let's go somewhere else."

From that point Izana was careful not to leave Nagate alone. They still got hostile looks when people recognized him though, and so Izana took him to parks and shrines where there were fewer people. Slowly, Nagate's spirits seemed to improve. He started looking up and soon was looking farther ahead, even suggesting places to go. Even better, he ate several times!

"Thank you, Izana. For walking me around. I do feel better," he admitted as they rested at one of the arial walkways.

"I am glad. It was nice to walk about and see so much of SIdonia," Izana replied.

"Yes. I know I love Sidonia, but every new place I see, I love it even more."

Izana's reply was cut off by Nagate's watch beeping an alarm. In disbelief, they watched him pull back his sleeve to reveal the icons for a call to sortie. "Why is it always you who is called?" They asked, worriedly.

"I still get to fly?" Nagate asked in wonder, completely ignoring Izana's question. "Thank you again, Izana. I have to go."

And with that, Izana watched Nagate leave, his spirits completely returned with a call to arms while within Izana's heart a quiver of fear spasmed. Would they see their friend again or would this be the mission that claimed him?

After the pilots took off to their mission, Izana found they had free time since, for once, they were not on the support and defense team kept on hand for any sortie. They decided now might be the perfect time to inquire with the mechanics about Nagate's garde unit, the Tsugumori. Izana's inquires brought them to the attention of Sasaki, the head of Toho Industries, the company currently in charge of repairing and developing the garde units and other weapons of Sidonia; which was both a good thing and a bad thing.

A good thing because if anyone could help, it'd be the head of Toho Industries.

A bad thing because Sasaki cut an imposing figure. Standing taller than most men, she was brash and too the point, and often would yell rather than speak. A habit likely developed on the production floors.

"Sasaki-san...,"Izana began to said with a bow.

"I haven't got time for formalities, cadet. I've got untis coming back here soon. And knows those pilots, those untites will need repairs. So speak up or get out of my way!"

"Yes, Sasaki-san," Izana nearly squeaked. "I am sorry to bother you. I was hoping I might inquire about any oddities with the Tsugumori. Obviously the unit isn't here but if there was records from it's last mission I could look over?"

"Records are kept with command. We didn't have to remove the comm unit though, got badly damaged. You're welcome to look it over, but that's all I've got. Everything else was scrapped or is out there likely getting damaged. These pilots never thing of us mere mechanics while they're out there fighting. Would it be too difficult -- Hitomi! WATCH THAT TORCH! YOU WANT TO BLOW US ALL UP?!? -- to try not to damage the units? I tell you..."

"If you could point me towards the comm unit?" Izana asked after nearly jumping out of their skin when Sasaki yelled.

"Over there," Sasaki said with a thumb jabbed over their shoulder. "Now, I've work to do."

Izana bowed, but the older woman had already dismissed Izana from her mind.
