Izana found the unit easily enough and kneeled down to examine it. There was a work bench nearby, a radio broadcast playing from it's surface, but Izana didn't think they'd be able to pick up the unit by themself. Looking it over, the didn't see anything obvious and so they attached their data tablet to it to access any data that might still be present.
As they worked, the radio droned, ignored until Izana heard Kunato's voice. They turned their attention to the broadcast and quickly realized it was a repeat of the exit interview from the disastrous sortie with the hive gauna.
Ancor: The battle with the linked sauna ended in repulsion, but only one out of the twenty-seven internal cores escaped. It truly was a sweeping victory. And pilot Kunato, you destroyed four of the cores by yourself. Excellent work sir.
Kunato: I am not satisfied.
Amcor: There certainly is strong criticism gathering against pilot Tanikaze. If the tail had been severed, they contend, total victory may have been ours…
Kunato: Not so. You can’t blame Tanikaze alone for that failure. I am just as responsible for not properly commanding my squad. I can say I tried my absolute best, but in the end, we lost comrades.
We shall see, Kunato. We shall see. Izana though as they gathered their data pad and returned to their dorm to review what was found.
